“I chose Architectural Engineering at the ��������Ƶ due to the integrative nature of the course, with modules dedicated to domestic and commercial design approaches, fundamental construction processes and construction law.

I enjoyed the dynamic structure of the course, studying different modules such as contracts, construction and environmental law, in tandem with essential and advanced design and construction processes.  I also appreciated the differing module outcomes, where all my skills were continually developed and exercised through; report writing, creating 3D architectural models and drawings, performing professional presentations and conducting a self-directed research dissertation. 

I would encourage anyone with an interest in architectural design and/or construction processes to consider this course, as it has the potential to create a well-informed and grounded design-engineer with a good appreciation for sustainable development.

Personally, this course has illuminated the growing necessity for the mitigation of environmental impact from infrastructure and construction projects. Once I graduate, I aim to further my education by studying for an MSc in Environmental Monitoring and Assessment”.

“I chose to study architectural engineering at the ��������Ƶ because I believe in minimising the impact humans have on our environment. A passion for the environment shows in our lectures and classes at the university. 

One of the best parts of the course so far are the real-world design projects. They are a great way to learn how to manage and be part of a team. At the end, you are proud of the work you achieved as a group, creating a large project, which at the start seemed impossible. 

Site visits and volunteering opportunities are plentiful. You can really advance and grow during these opportunities. You can learn a lot of new skills and meet interesting people with the same interests.

Architectural engineering at the ��������Ƶ is an excellent course with brilliant lecturers and staff. I would recommend this course to anyone with an interest in the built environment and especially to those who have an interest in the environment”.

“I chose architectural engineering at the ��������Ƶ to ensure my future opportunities within the industry are broad as there are many possible routes I can follow with this degree. The University came highly recommended, as it has a fantastic reputation and recognised links with companies within the industry.

During my first year, I have gained significant insight into the built environment, from the fundamentals of construction, an introduction to architectural design with an emphasis on hand drawing and site analysis, to digital tools used in industry, such as Revit and AutoCAD. This equipped me with plentiful knowledge to embark on a real-world design project, with other built environment students. 

I applaud this approach to teaching and learning, as it gives you skills, which will be of great advantage when entering industry.

My first year has flown by and I’m excited to begin the next stage of the course. I am currently keen to explore a future career as a Design Manager, as it encompasses all aspects of my degree that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, it has been an amazing experience”.

“For as long as I can remember, architecture has always had a special place in my heart. Buildings have always fascinated me. Their construction, design, thought process, the material used - everything has always sparked interest in me. It is because of this natural inclination towards the artistic aspect of buildings that I chose architectural engineering.

When I finished high school, I started applying to international universities to help me unleash my full potential during my bachelor’s degree. Having looked at all the universities across the UK, the BSc (Hons) Architectural Engineering course at the ��������Ƶ grasped my instant attention, because it focused on a multi-disciplinary approach towards planning, design, construction and operational analysis.

Throughout my first two years of study at the ��������Ƶ, I gained a completely new set of skills such as rendering, thermography and building assessment using energy simulation software. Integrating all of the principles of design and engineering to my second-year, real-world design project, I won The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) prize”.

“Studying Architectural Engineering at the ��������Ƶ has been a blessing in many ways. I have met and worked with a multitude of wonderfully talented and passionate individuals that I am sure will become valuable assets to the industry.

One of the unique experiences about university is having this open platform of interconnection, where many people, from all varieties of backgrounds can meet and discuss openly amongst one another. I particularly enjoy the instances where I have the opportunity to engage with people outside my course. I have found it incredibly valuable to listen to their own experiences and points of view, on things I may not have encountered within my own field of study.

In the future, I hope to continue building on the knowledge and skills that I have gained whilst at university. I am certain that I will look back on my years in Plymouth fondly”.
