Students studying music, audio and music technology and sound production have access to a range of professional recording and performance spaces, as well as a wide range of industry-standard and specialised audio equipment.
Facilities are located in various buildings on our city-centre campus . They are all accessed via key card, administered by the specialist technician in Rolle 012. Your can also borrow equipment appropriate to the modules and taught activities that take place within the department.

Our purpose-built recording studios feature a wide range of specialist equipment that is used across the industry offering modern and traditional recording workflows.

Roland Levinsky recording studio, Roland Levinsky Building, Room 305

RLB305 is our flagship studio housing a comprehensive range of professional equipment designed for recording, mixing and mastering.

  • SSL Origin 32 recording console.
  • Microphone preamps including Neve 1073DPX, API 3224V and Chandler TG2.
  • Extensive collection of professional microphones including Coles 4038s, DPA 3506As and a Royer R-121.
  • PMC monitoring system for precision listening.

The House

The House is a state-of-the-art performing arts centre, offering world-class facilities as well as a diverse programme of contemporary performance open to the public. The space offers the ability to develop live sound and recording skills as well as performance opportunities.

Sherwell Centre: live performance and recording space

The Sherwell Centre is a Grade 2 listed building that has been leased from the Sherwell United Reformed Church for 250 years. The building has been converted to provide two lecture theatres, an exhibition area and gallery on the mezzanine floor.
Available for University and community events, the Sherwell Centre offers live performance spaces that are well suited for classical recitals and recording.

A fulldome environment providing a unique and highly immersive shared audience experience. It is used for a range of learning, entertainment and research activities allowing students to develop immersive audio and visual experiences.

We offer a wide array of tools which enable you to develop/prototype new products, services and experiences, create bespoke tools for complex and specialist research purposes and engage with opportunities for innovative, interdisciplinary collaborations.

Jill Craigie Cinema
An innovative space, providing an opportunity to showcase moving image pieces and film work in an authentic, high-spec cinema environment. The cinema is also equipped with Dolby Atmos 5.1 Surround Sound to accommodate all sound tracks.
